Lifestyle Changes to Prevent Acne

Acne is a growing problem among teenagers and young adults. It causes loss of confidence, stress and even depression. Of course it cannot be stopped since acne is natural among youngsters due to hormonal changes. However, if there is excessive acne, you might want to consult a doctor. Prior to that, try out the following simple changes in your lifestyle.

  1. Get enough sleep

According to researches, the amount of stress will increase by 14% for every hour of sleep that you lose. Since stress releases hormones that will cause changes in the skin structure and is a major contributing factor towards acne, you should keep in mind to get adequate sleep. Bring the temperature down in your room since cooler body temperature is known to make it easier to sleep.

  1. Change your diet

Sugar levels of your blood cause insulin to rise. Insulin is a hormone which could cause the growth of pore-clogging cells and also boost your oil glands. Hence add whole grains, vegetables, fruits and cut down on the wheat, oil, salt and sugar. Of course it’s hard to say goodbye to your favourite chocolates and fast foods but well, if you need perfectly glowing skin, you will have to sacrifice.

  1. Get some exercise

Exercise is vital for everyone, and not only for people who are trying to prevent acne. Exercise helps cut stress so that will lead to lesser acne. Also, exercise increases your blood circulation where more oxygen is being transferred to your cells giving them more energy and life. However, keep in mind that sweat can cause skin irritation and acne so make sure you take a shower as soon as you workout.

  1. Sip water

Drinking water regularly during the day will keep you fit and refreshed since water flushes out all the toxins and other unnecessary things from your system. Water also boosts blood flow so that could of course prevent acne. Drinking 8 glasses per day is a must so try to drink more than that to see better results.

  1. Cleanse twice a day

The most number of oil glands in your body are situated in your face. On top of that, you will be adding make up, dirt, dust and sweat after a tiring day at work. If you do not cleanse thoroughly, you may experience skin irritation which leads to acne. The dirt and dust will seep into the pores causing blackheads and pimples. Even if you don’t shower, make sure you wash your face with an approved face wash to keep it soft and smooth. Choose a face wash according to your skin type.
